The Normandin Mercier La Peraudiere Cognac is wonderful Grande Champagne blend of eaux-de-vie - both in taste and in its presentation decanter. The house of Normandin Mercier was founded in 1872, and this cognac was produced in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

A limited edition production (only 1,000 decanters produced), this offers great value for such a collector's item. The reason the cognac is named 'La Peraudiere' is interesting. The barrels in which the eaux-de-vie was aged were made from wood from a very specific part of the Charente forest - the region of La Peraudiere - and was selected thanks to the fineness of the grain. After the trees were felled they were left to age in the open air for three years, before being crafted by the best coopers into barrels.

Color: honey On the nose: Woody and floral. I get long and medium aromas of dried apricots, oak, honey, cinnamon syrup, rancio, and leather. The rancio is more like a shiitake mushroom-based sauce instead of the more usual astringent dry shiitake mushrooms I get in other old Grande Champagne...

I really love that typical Grande Champagne taste paired with that 45% of alcohol. For me it's one of my absolute favorite Cognacs as it pairs fruitiness and some very nice smoky and woody notes. Well done, Edouard! I always let my friends taste this Cognac if they haven't been in touch with Cognac...
